Users can't connect to the file server

A user can't find the file server in the Chooser

Make sure that AppleTalk is active on the computer that is running the file server.
On the user's computer, make sure that AppleTalk is active, and that the correct network connection type is specified in the "Connect via" pop-up menu in the AppleTalk control panel.
If you can't see other servers in the Chooser, AppleTalk may not be working.
Make sure that the file server is running.
Try connecting to the server by entering its IP address or DNS name in the Chooser.
Check the name you assigned to the file server (in the AppleShare panel of the File Server Settings window). Make sure users are looking for the correct name and AppleTalk zone (if any).
    Check your network connections.
If you have your network set up for multihoming, check to be sure mutlihoming is enabled.
Try resetting the parameter RAM (PRAM).
Look in Mac Help (available in the Help menu on computers with Mac OS 9 installed) for instructions on resetting PRAM. Type "PRAM" in the Search field of the Mac Help window.

A user can't log on to the file server

Make sure the user has entered the correct name and password. The user name is not case-sensitive, but the password is.
Make sure logging on is enabled for the user.
Make sure the file server has at least one shared disk or folder and you have assigned appropriate access privileges.
Make sure the maximum number of concurrent file server and FTP client connections has not been exceeded.
If you are sharing users and groups between servers, make sure the primary server is running and the secondary server is connected to the primary server.
If the user is trying to log on to the server from a remote location, check to be sure TCP Filter Admin is configured to allow access on port 548.
Check to see if users can connect to the server over AppleTalk (using the Chooser). Then check to see if they can connect over TCP (for example, by opening a Web browser program and logging on to the AppleShare IP Web site). If they can connect over one network but not the other, there may be a problem with their AppleTalk or TCP/IP settings.

Users' accounts are disabled for no known reason

The limit on failed logon attempts may have been exceeded for the following reasons:
Someone may be trying to guess users' passwords.
Users' computers may be set up to log on automatically with an incorrect user name.
If a user is trying to log on by choosing the server from the Recent Servers list in the Apple menu, some of the logon information may be wrong. The user should try logging on through the Chooser.

Reset the users' accounts, or turn off or change the limit on failed logon attempts.

Users can't log on to the file server over TCP

Make sure users' TCP/IP settings are correct for your network.
On the file server, make sure TCP connections are enabled (in the AppleShare settings panel of the File Server Settings window).
Use a utility that allows you to test network connections by "pinging" devices on the network.
